Bank Holiday

August 25, 2008

This is not a very long post but yesterday I made Chris drive me to Ikea which he was not very happy about! But we bought all the shelves that I wanted for my craft room. I should really have measured the width of the room as well as the length and the height though because we nearly couldn’t stand it up! But they are up, and I have unpacked so much stuff to them now it looks great, I just like to go and stand in there and look.

I’m not going to blog any pictures of it today because it still isn’t finished. Still need to pick the desk up from my mum and dads and there is a smaller set of shelves to put up. Hopefully we will sort that next weekend.

My Folklore Cushions

August 21, 2008

Around 6 months ago I bought some gorgeous My Folklore fabric designed by Lecien. I absolutely love this fabric and have been meaning to cover some cushions in it since we started looking to buy. Well considering we still haven’t got the Sofa I have been in no rush but last night I finally got round to sewing them. I imported the fabric from Germany, why is it so difficult to get these lovely fabrics in the UK?

And here are the finished cushions. I am so very pleased with them and can’t understand why I didn’t get round to this sooner. They are 50cm/20in feather cushion inserts and the covers include a zip across the bottom edge for easy removal and washing in the future. These pictures also give a sneak peak into the colour of my craft room :) although this was about all that was in the room. I also have some off cuts left, and expect to see some bits and bobs appearing in this fabric soon just because I love it so much. those birds are so cute.

A glorious week off :)

August 18, 2008

Well it is finally the end of my glorious week off, and what do I have to show for it? absolutely nothing! But that was kind of the point, having been so busy over the past weeks we both just had a week off to chill out and do nothing at all.

Having said that I have NOTHING to show for it is a little bit of a lie though. I made a pouch which is shown below and i know its not very exciting (another pouch) but this one has a flat bottom so was a bit of practising and was not as easy as the other one.

It is made of some vintage scrap fabric, it reminds me of a wash bag so I guess that is what it will be.

One other thing I have done today with my extra day off is I have now painted my craft room! so all it needs now is some furniture and then the most exciting bit, the unpacking. I can’t wait to get it all finished. It is painted ‘mint’ and at the minute looks a bit cold, but im sure once it has some stuff in it it will be gorgeous.

Thats it for now, I am hoping to get the shop updated, and the craft room finished by next weekend.

Retro party pouch

August 9, 2008

I have finished my retro fabric pouch, I just love this fabric and I’m sure one of those bunnies has a shotgun!

I also used a retro fabric for the inside with small delicate blue and red flowers on a pale background. Again, this was one of those fabrics that is about as old as me. I Know my mum made me a cot blanket out of this fabricwith an applique cockerel on so I find it such a pleasure to use the scraps of these.

There are a couple of things wrong with this pouch though, mainly is that the corners of the zip could have gone better. I am not sure if I have it facing the wrong way when I sewed it together or if there was some other problem but I guess I just need some practice. The second thing is that because the outer fabric is so old and quite thin there are a couple of flaws in it. One floor is that there are some imperfections and pulls in the fabric itself, I have made it more sturdy by ironing interfacing to this side as well but it is visible on the outside. The second is that because it has been scrunched up in a box for so long I am on the 5th Ironing of this fabric and the crinkles still don’t come out. I will probably re-washing the pouch and re-ironing. As this pouch isnt perfect, I am not going to attempt to sell it, but might make it a present to my sister as she used to love the rabbits on this fabric when we were kids.

Fabulous Fabric Friday

August 8, 2008

Yay! I got home from work today and not only did I have the joy of knowing I have a whole week off but my fabric arrived from Japan! Take a look

Its so unbelievably cute and Peter Pans wonky grin makes me smile so much. I can’t wait to get sewing some cute little items with these, and they go great with the Red riding hood fabric. Just in case you were not quite sure, on the left we have Peter Pan fairytale, in the middle Robots, and on the right Snow White fairytale.

I am working on a pouch made from some retro fabric from my childhood but its not 100% done yet but I will post it as soon as it is done.

Cute Little Pincushion

August 7, 2008

The last thing I have to show off for the minute is this cute little red riding hood pincushion. I am one of those dreadful hoarders who can never throw anything away so I had been looking for a way to create something pretty with these, that would also give me a bit more practice in sewing, I came across this pattern on the sew, mama, sew blog, its so lovely I had to make one, and here is the finished result. I absolutly loved making this, it was so quick and easy and is so satisfying to look at. I think there will be many more of these cropping up in the future.

I think that’s about it for the updates at the minute, as I said I’ve been so busy with moving I haven’t had much time for craft. With any luck there will be a bit more activity now and I’m quit excited to get some stuff done.

Catnip Monsters Mk2

August 7, 2008

I decided it was about time that I tried sewing on the machine a bit more to get a bit more practiced. After the untimely death of the first catnip monster I made my first attempt at sewing monsters on the machine and made these simple, yet gorgeous cotton striped catnipped friends.

I have given the toothed version to our three new cats and after a few days, so far so good, he has stood the test of time. I shall pop the other two on Etsy in a couple of days and see how they get on there.

Smitty the Kitty

August 7, 2008

Yay, Im on the net :) so here goes at updating on a few things I have been up to lately. I am gong to do these in date order of first made first posted.

Firstly we have Smitty the Kitty monster and some friends. Smitty is obviously a monster inspired by cats. He is made of soft red fleece with some gorgeous green and brown tree fabric for ears and tail. My sister very kindly gave me some offcuts of fabric she has been using lately so I could add them to these little fluffy friends. Smitty is accompanied by two felt monster hairclips (yes I do have a small obsession) these are actually quite large clips though its not so easy to tell in the pic. The monsters are made of hand felted merino wool, cut and hand stitched with small embroidered faces. The last little fellow in this image is a catnip monster made from an old recycled sweater. He was such a brave monster but sadly due to his delicate exterior he met a timely demise, RIP my catnip friend.

Fantastic new find!

August 6, 2008

Having moved from Nottingham to Derby I have been at such a loss at knowing wear to buy supplies, especially as I don’t work in the city centre anymore. Today however I went out to beeston to finally visit the little fabric shop in Beeston that I have seen a couple of times and wow, I’m so happy. It didn’t really have much in the way of fabric that I was interested in at the time but was great for notions, especially zips and they were so much cheaper than I would have bought them before. It did as well have a good selection of fleece and fur fabric perfect for the next time I need some monster fabric stock. I now just need to get myself into Derby more often to have a look around there.

The Internet should be connected today as well fingers crossed X though it isn’t yet :( then I can get round to doing some proper updates and get some piccies on here.
